WHAT: To make it easier for the community to donate masks, OU Medicine volunteers have teamed up with U-Haul and the Greater Oklahoma City YMCA for a community-wide collection on April 21. The drop-off process at four YMCA locations will make it convenient to deliver desperately needed equipment in a safe manner.

OU Medicine last week launched the Million Mask Challenge to prepare to treat an expected surge in COVID-19 cases.

The health system has seen a tremendous response from schools, sewing groups and community volunteers who put their time and talent into creating cloth masks.

“OU Medicine is proud to have instituted universal masking on our campus, which means every individual is asked to wear a mask,” said Chuck Spicer, President and CEO of OU Medicine. “The need is great, but we know our community is coming together to provide everything our healthcare workers, visitors and patients need to fight this pandemic.”

OU Medicine is also collecting fast food gift cards; commercially wrapped or boxed snacks; latex-free gloves; hand sanitizer; and word search and crossword puzzle books.
